We are looking for our next engineer to help grow and support our infrastructure and mission critical activities.


  • Support Ziftr’s application infrastructure to ensure our platform is optimized for performance and reliability
  • Maintain and enhance core / shared components of the product as well as internal tools
  • Provide architectural input for system design to improve scalability, reliability, and adaptability of infrastructure
  • Work closely with the software development team and other parts of the company to provide a robust, flexible and scalable platform that enables both product development and new service offerings
  • Ensure processes adapt and evolve to reflect current and future best practices
  • Deploy system automation technologies to streamline operations
  • Manage incident response protocol and provide hands-on quarterbacking during major service interruptions

  • Have worked in a large-scale, high-traffic redundant web environment
  • Can articulate the challenges of maintaining the various layers of the web stack
  • Have dealt with multi-terabyte databases in an online, real-time environment
  • Are knowledgeable about operational practices including DevOps and agile
  • Are familiar with modern web infrastructure technologies, virtualization, clustering, load-balancing and content delivery networks
  • Implemented system automation technologies (Puppet or Chef)
  • Have worked in a hybrid or fully cloud environment and are familiar with the pros and pitfalls of virtualization
  • Know how to work closely with a team and collaborate effectively
  • Have an insatiable appetite for technology

Job Requirements / Experience:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • 5+ years Linux Server Operating system experience (troubleshooting, installation)
  • Experience with Open Source Web Servers (Apache, Nginx)
  • Experience with system and application performance measurement and troubleshooting
  • Networking knowledge (TCP/IP, firewall, load-balancing,VPN)
  • Scripting ability (Perl, Bash, Python, Ruby)
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Participate in an on-call rotation

Very nice to have:

  • B.S. or higher in Computer Science or related field
  • CakePHP, Ruby on Rails, or some other MVC framework
  • Amazon EC2 experience
  • Familiarity with ITIL (certification a plus)
  • Worked with business intelligence platforms
  • Experience in Continuous integration systems and methodologies
  • Contributor to Open Source Projects
  • Familiarity with Hadoop, ElasticSearch, Redis
  • Boston Red Sox fan
